There’s No Substitution For Experience

By Brian D. Roman, Attorney at Law

A recent domestic assault and battery case in Massachusetts required the assistance of several local police departments, as well as a K9 unit. Instead of surrendering and complying with police orders, the 52-year-old man hid from police and forced them to come after him. It finally took a German shepherd to control the man and allow officers to arrest him.

The incident happened on the afternoon of Jan. 4 in Norwell, less than an hour outside Attleboro. The man allegedly assaulted someone inside a car, and police were on the lookout for him. He hid behind a grocery store and disobeyed orders from the police officers. Police warned him to put his hands up and surrender, but the man would not listen.

Police officers were forced to use their K-9 unit, a 3-year-old German shepherd. The dog went toward the man and was able to control him long enough so that officers could arrest him. He ended up being treated for unknown injuries before he was transported to jail.

Three local police departments assisted in the search and arrest of the man. Fortunately, there were no injuries involved. The man faces several  domestic violence charges , including assault and battery. He also faces charges for resisting arrest.

It is unknown what exactly the man did or who he harmed, but when someone intentionally harms another person, he or she can face criminal charges of some degree. Domestic violence can be charged as either a misdemeanor or felony, depending on the severity of the crime. This is often determined by the victim’s injuries if any. Sometimes a person can face assault charges in the course of self-defense, which is a solid criminal defense when necessary.

It’s important to remember that just because someone is arrested for a crime does not mean he or she is automatically guilty. An experienced criminal defense attorney will protect the rights of their client and present a solid defense to the charges.
