There’s No Substitution For Experience

Many people think nothing of drug use because they don’t realize the many penalties involved if they are caught. Not only can  drug charges  lead to jail time and fines, but they can also affect employment as well. A Massachusetts worker has recently been taken off the city payroll after he was arrested for drug use.

The 50-year-old man was an employee for the city of Waltham – about 45 minutes outside Attleboro – when he was arrested in August for possession of heroin and cocaine. He was also attempting to sell the heroin while he was on the job.

After he was arrested, he was put on paid administrative leave. However, it was recently discovered through the man’s personnel records that he received his final paycheck at a city employee on Nov. 27. The city mayor did confirm that the decision was made to take him off the payroll. The man’s next court date is on Jan. 13.

As seen in this story, drug use can have serious consequences. A person can lose their job due to a drug addiction. This is especially true when a person uses harder drugs, such as cocaine and heroin. These drugs are highly addictive and should be avoided, especially while a person is on the job.

Although it is unlikely that the man will get his job back, he should take steps to preserve his reputation so he can find a new job. He will need a solid defense in order to fight his charges.
