Massachusetts State Police say that an alleged drunk driver struck two people who were standing next to a disabled vehicle, injuring both. According to police, the accident occurred in the early hours of May 16 in Revere, Massachusetts, near the convergence of Route 1 and Route 60.

Police say that prior to the accident, a Good Samaritan had stopped to assist the driver of a Honda Civic, which had previously broken down along that portion of the roadway. Authorities say that sometime later another Honda Civic, driven by a 27-year-old man from Chelsea, Massachusetts, plowed into the disabled vehicle and pushed it into the two individuals standing nearby.

The resulting collision injured both the Good Samaritan and the driver of the disabled Civic. Authorities identified the Good Samaritan as a 39-year-old man from Roslindale, Massachusetts. He later received treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital where his injuries were reported as serious. The other victim of the crash, a 20-year-old woman from Lynn, Massachusetts, suffered injuries to her head and face. Authorities reported that she was awaiting surgery on May 18. Members of the Good Samaritan’s family indicated that she had not yet regained consciousness since the accident.

Police have since charged the Honda Civic driver with operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and another violation related to marked lanes. He remains in custody in lieu of $13,000 cash bail.

If you are currently facing charges related to a DUI accident there are a few things you should know. Although you may feel remorseful for your actions, any admission of guilt at this time may imperil your freedom.  You have a right to have your attorney with you during any police interrogation.

You should also know that  your arrest is not an automatic guarantee that prosecutors will be able to convict you  beyond a reasonable doubt. An attorney with experience in Massachusetts DUI laws can challenge the validity and trustworthiness of any evidence prosecutors may use against you to secure a conviction.
