Wrong-Way Driver on I-495 Faces DUI Charges

There’s No Substitution For Experience

By Brian D. Roman, Attorney at Law

Going the wrong way while driving on a road – on a highway, no less – is a cause of concern, since this act can endanger the lives of other motorists. Police recently responded to multiple calls about a man was driving the wrong way on 1-495 in Hopkinton, 30 minutes outside Attleboro.

The 53-year-old man was arrested in the early morning hours of Nov. 11. He was surprised to be arrested, claiming that he was on a side street, when in fact he was parked on the median of the highway. The man accused police of lying, claiming he was simply pulled over trying to call his sister.

The man then allegedly admitted he had been drinking. He refused a Breathalyzer test and field sobriety tests. He now faces multiple criminal charges, including  DUI , driving to endanger and driving the wrong way. He pleaded not guilty and was set free after paying the $250 bail. His court date is Dec. 31.

The man may have had more than “a little bit of Jim Beam,” as he told the police. It appears as though the man did not know where he was and what was going on. Driving the wrong way on a freeway is a scary situation, as he could have caused an accident and caused injuries or death to not only himself but others.

This was the man’s second offense for drinking and driving, so he will likely face stiffer penalties, especially when combined with his alleged reckless driving. Defendants charged with drunk driving will need a strong legal defense and an experienced criminal defense attorney to protect their rights during any court proceedings.
